Cupping is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique often used in conjunction with massage therapy, acupuncture and dry needling.
There are different versions of cupping found in different cultures such as Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.
During a Cupping session the therapist place plastic or glass cups into the skin’s surface which create a vacuum force that pulls stagnant blood out of the areas while the tissue becomes saturated with fresh blood blood. This stimulates healing of the area and help reduce pain. Although this process leaves a round mark that may appear black or blue, this therapy is usually painless. Cupping marks (bruising) can last anywhere from a few hours up to 20 days depending on the strength of the treatment and the severity of the condition.
Benefits of Cupping Therapy:
- releases of fascial adhesions
- Improves apparance of scars
- relieves pain and stiffness
- reduces muscle tensions
- Increases joint mobility
- Increases the removal of oedema after injury
After a cupping session is recommended to avoid exercise, steam, sauna, sun exposure for a minimum of 24 hours and keep the area protected.
At the Clinic, Cupping Therapy is offered by Robert and David (we only offer Dry Cupping).
